What is a Rental Codec?

A rental codec is the video conferencing codec alone. This is a hardware codec capable of accepting camera inputs (Composite, S-Video, Component or HDMI), and audio inputs (XLR or RCA). These inputs allow video and audio to be transmitted from a location to a remote destination through the video conference connection. Additionally, this codec is also capable of connecting to displays and audio systems at a venue using Composite, S-Video, Component or HDMI for video and XLR, RCA or HDMI for audio, depending on the codec rented.

Generally, a codec only is required at venues such as a hotel ballroom in which projection and in-room audio is already installed. The codec physical connections for audio and video must match the requirements of the room where the codec will be used.
